One of the goals of LIRA is to encourage academic achievement and to provide motivation for those who have just begun their studies. In recognition to first year students for outstanding essays which show originality and above average scholarship, LIRA awards a cash prize to the student whose essay is judged by the Executive to be the most original.
Criteria
The annual LIRA Award is given at the end of each year at the Politics and International Relations Dinner, recognising a Latrobe University Student’s 1st year essay, submitted in that academic year, from any Humanities and Social Sciences subject, which displays the most creativity and innovation in addressing current, or interpreting past topics in the sphere of international relations. The chosen work must show good academic ability and sound research.
Aims
The LIRA Award aims to encourage original thought and inspired approaches to current international topics, or in interpreting past international events, while also recognising high and consistent academic ability and sound research practices within the work produced by students interested in international relations.
Conditions
- The LIRA Award is to be awarded to a Latrobe University student based on work that is submitted during a 1st year Humanities and Social Sciences Subject, regardless of the degree the student is enrolled in at the time, as long as it relates to the sphere of international relations.
- The LIRA Award is to be judged by both academics teaching in the relevant student’s unit, and the LIRA Executive, with the end responsibility for the decision on the winner to be held by the elected LIRA executive. The award cannot be given to a LIRA executive member.
